“Talking points” for your reference:
1. Wilderness limits public access, no matter what the Congressional people and the Wilderness Project tell you. No ATVs, bikes, snowmobiles in wilderness. REMEMBER: EXISTING TRAILS AREN'T ROADS!!!
2. Woodcutting and range management activities not allowed.
3. They will tell you that existing roads will be cherry stemmed to permit continued access. Make them define "road" for you. You will soon discover that there will be very, very few cherry stemmed "roads".
4. There will be no wilderness access for the very young, the elderly, the sick and the crippled unless they can walk in and back out.
5. Hunters and fishermen will not be able to use motorized travel off the few cherry stemmed "roads". They will have to haul out their kills and catches.
6. Once an area is designated "wilderness" no further mineral exploration is allowed and existing claims cannot be expanded no matter what is discovered.
7. Many areas of Nevada have tremendous potential for green energy like solar and wind, but wilderness areas cannot be used. Therefore, the potential for development of alternative energy sources is eliminated.
8. Grazing allotments are allowed but cannot be passed on from the permittee to future generations. Also, permittees are only allowed to use cherry stemmed roads for all forms of motorized traffic. If the "road" doesn't go to your allotment, then you have to haul in equipment on foot or horse. RANCHERS ARE ALWAYS THE FIRST TARGET OF WILDERNESS PROPONENTS. THEY WILL TRY TO SEPARATE THE RANCHERS FROM OTHER USERS OF THE LAND.
Thank you,
Board of Directors, Coalition for Public Access
