Omnibus Lands Bill coming to a vote

Dear CPA Friend,

The Senate will vote on Senate Bill S.22 - the Federal Land Management Act of 2009 (previously known as the Omnibus Lands Bill) - THIS THURSDAY - January 15, 2009.

The CPA opposes the inclusion of the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) which will heavily impact BLM lands in Nevada and other components of the bill. The NLCS affects all the Wilderness Study Areas now established in Nevada whether or not the BLM has deemed them suitable for Wilderness Area designation.

We are asking you to send a message via the automated letter writer link below. The letter writer allows you to send a message by selecting paragraphs you want to include. After you complete your letter, an acknowledgement email will be sent to your email address so that you can complete the process.

One thing may happen and that is the address these will be sent to will be jammed and you may get an "email undeliverable" message. IGNORE IT. All the letters sent by the system will also be hand carried to the legislators whether they got through to the email address or not.

Please take a few minutes to send a message to let Congress know you oppose this lands bill (over 160 individual bills that wouldn't pass on their own) that:

1) establishes 2,000,000 acres of new wilderness nationwide,

2) gives both the Interior and Agriculture (USFS) departments more authority over lands without Congressional oversight, and

3) land away from alternative energy development that will be necessary in the future and UNAVAILABLE as a result of this bill.

Two minutes of your time is urgently needed to preserve access to your public lands. This massive land grab bill that will lock up millions of additional acres of public land, close thousands of miles of recreation trails, harm already struggling rural economies, further reduce renewable resource harvesting, be detrimental to forest health by eliminating all forest management, restrict property rights and hamstring energy exploration in the United States. Click the link below & your letter will be sent directly to the decision makers. Please take a few minutes to help convince them to vote against the S.22 Land Grab Act.
