CPA wants volunteers to work on Wilson Canyon

Dear CPA Friend,

CPA NEEDS YOU...

A few months ago the Coalition for Public Access, the Forest Service - Bridgeport Ranger District, and Phyllis Hunewill (Lyon County Commissioner) met to discuss problems related to the "closed area" of National Forest located on the east side of 208 at the south entrance to Wilson Canyon.  The primary problem is that OHV's have created trails inside the boundaries of the closed area, barricades have been broken and signs have been damaged.  One of the primary complaints that CPA hears from conservationists is that the OHV's cause damage to viewsheds, plant and animal habitat, and disrespect the rules put in place to balance the needs of motorized recreation and conservation.  There is probably no better example than to see what has happen in the closed area of Wilson Canyon - right along the highway and in plain sight for everyone to see.  CPA believes in responsible use of our public lands and only through responsible use will we maintain our right to open-access.

Over the past few months CPA worked jointly with the Forest Service to sponsor a "work day" to repair the barricades, signs and landscape.  The Smith Valley Rotary has also joined in sponsoring this event by providing a BBQ lunch.  CPA WANTS YOU TO VOLUNTEER AND HELP!!
