FS Completes Motorized Travel In Bridgeport Ranger District

BACKGROUND:  The USFS – Bridgeport Ranger District (BRD) was required to prepare a Travel Management Plan (define a set of "authorized" routes for travel by motorized vehicles within the BRD).  The Nevada portion of the BRD had been open for "cross-country" travel (not being required to stay on roads or trails) and this would no longer be allowed.  This process started in November, 2008 and was completed in the spring of 2010.

CURRENT STATUS:  The Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) is available and it is now unlawful to travel by motorized means off of a designated route/road.  Travel by motorized means to your favorite campsite or area to be explored will not be allowed unless it is on an approved route.  ATV’s, dirt bikes and high-clearance off-road vehicles will be restricted to these approved routes.  The Center for Biological Diversity and the Forest Service have reached a settlement and the lawsuit has been withdrawn.
