Privacy Policy

November 5, 2009

The Coalition for Public Access (hereinafter "we" or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of Personal Information that you submit to us online.  We have created this privacy policy to help you understand when and how Personal Information is collected, used, disclosed, and protected when you use the Coalition for Public Access Web site (hereinafter "Site").  Outlined below is our online privacy policy.  If you have questions about this policy, please contact us.

Collection of Personal Information
We collect a variety of Personal Information from supporters and other users of our internet resources.  Personal Information is information that can be directly associated with a specific person or entity such as a name, address, telephone number, email address or information about activities directly linked to that person.  For example, we collect Personal Information about you when you ask to join our mailing list or make a donation.

We collect Personal Information from individuals who affirmatively request to receive e-mail or other services from us.  We collect this Personal Information in order to provide these individuals with timely information via e-mail regarding events, activities, resources and issues.

We collect Personal Information from those who make online donations to the organization, in order to process the contributions.

Online contributions are processed by PayPal or Google using a secure connection.  Your internet connection to our Site is ended and you are transferred to PayPal or Google.  Credit card and bank account numbers are not provided or available to us.

Collection of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses
Your IP address usually identifies your physical connection to the Internet through a certain Internet Service Provider (ISP).  It also may provide a means of identifying the city, community and/or business from which you are connecting.  In cases where you have a “static” IP address (which does not change, and which you would generally specifically have requested from your ISP) your IP address may uniquely identify your specific physical Internet connection.  A static IP address may provide a means of specifically identifying you (or people on your local network, if you share one external IP address) on a future visit to the Site.

The standard logging mechanisms of our Site server log IP addresses and we analyze them in order to improve the value of our site.  We also collect aggregate numbers of page hits in order to track the popularity of certain pages and improve the value of our site.  We do not gather, request, record, require, collect or track any Internet users’ Personal Information through these logging and analysis processes.

Email Communications
We maintain e-mail lists to keep interested individuals informed and individuals must affirmatively request to join them.  We configure our list server software to refuse to divulge the email addresses of our list subscribers to anyone other than those whom we authorize.  However, we are neither the author of this software nor in control of the servers, and are not responsible for any failures in the software, servers or services to preserve subscriber anonymity.

Subscribers to our e-mail lists may terminate their subscription by following the unsubscribe instructions which are included in every email. Alternatively, you may send an email to unsubscribe@cfpa-nv.org with the email address you want removed in the body of the message.

Web Cookies
Our Site does not use Web cookies.

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
In general, we use the personal information that you give us to process your donations and to fulfill your email notification requests.  We may contact you by email and/or telephone in order to acknowledge a donation.  A volunteer or representative of a separate company engaged by us may contact you by email or telephone to ask you to participate in an activity, event, to solicit contributions, or to provide you with information regarding resources and issues that we have reason to believe may interest you.  In cases where we supply your contact information to a third party for purposes of such contacts, we will first require the third party to agree to non-disclosure of your personal information, and to agree not to use it for any purpose other than that for which we supplied it.

For legal and accounting purposes, we will keep contribution records for (at least) the period required by law.

We will only disclose personal information with your consent or as described in this policy.

Security
We recognize the importance of security for all Personal Information collected through our Site.  We take steps to protect against the loss, misuse, or unauthorized alteration of Personal Information collected through this Site.  We restrict access to personal information to those who need such access in the course of their duties for us.

To best protect your credit card information we do not collect or store financial information on our Site servers.  Rather, they are stored only on systems operated by the financial institutions and payment processing companies through whom the transactions are conducted and even in these instances we do not have access to nor are we provide this sensitive information.

Our Site may contain links to other Web sites and servers.  We do not bear responsibility for privacy policies or content on linked Web sites.  Accordingly, you also agree and acknowledge that we will not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such content, services on or through any such site or resource or goods.  We encourage you to read the privacy statements on each Web site you visit.  We provide links to original articles written and maintained by third parties.  These links are provided as a convenience and do not imply a claim of ownership of that content.
